I’m reading this book called Cowgirls of the American West. The introduction talks about two cowgirls laying still in a pasture and letting their heifers lick their faces. The way it was described in the book made the relationship between cowgirl and cow sound so fun that I decided I just had to try. After thinking about the possibility of getting a hoof pressed into my delicate face, I decided I had better go ahead and spend my time behind the fence. I really wanted to put my cowgirl abilities to the test and see if I could get at least one of those girls to let me pet her. So I sat behind the fence and tried to see if I could make a new friend.

They weren’t really close to begin with. So I had to introduce myself.

Looky there. A little sweet talkin’ never hurt anybody. Come here ladies, I’m a wanna-be cowgirl. I’m not gonna hurt ya.

Let me see your red earrings. Which one of you is going to be the brave one? 41? 15? 17?

Well, hey there 41. You’ve got a lot of eye make up caked on your eyelids. Come a little closer, I just want to pet you a little.

That’s a brave gal. Lucky number 7, I think you’re the bravest of the bunch. Now let’s see if they’ll play follow the leader.

I see you’re bringing your friends along after all.

There ya go… a little closer…

Atta girl. But, I still can’t pet you over there. A little closer…

Will you let me bribe ya?

What’s that? A truck coming up the driveway? No! Wait! Come back! We were just gettin’ to be friends, ladies.
Guess I failed my test. Better luck next time.
